I assume you are using the PC version of Lightwave. On the Amiga we have a
utility program called Pixel 3D Pro which has a polygon reduction feature.
Normally it is used to reduce triangles to planar polygons, but it can also
be used as a reduction feature if you really crank the planar angle up.
Dunno if there is something like that for the PC.
